Your ability to write fast and create a lot of content is directly proportional to your writer’s stamina. So what is ‘writer’s stamina’?Just like a runner with high stamina is able to run for long distances without stopping or getting tired, a writer with high stamina is able to write for hours without getting tired.
Writing can be a draining and tiring process.
Like American author, Joseph Heller said, “Every writer I know has trouble writing.”It could be due to the creative process or a lack of inspiration or many other things. If you’re a blogger or an online marketer, in most cases, writing is difficult because you’re not used to it or you don’t have the time… or you just dislike it because it tires you out.
In this article, you’ll be given 5 techniques to improve your writer’s stamina. It’s important that you try them out often and you will develop the stamina to write faster and produce more content without getting tired as easily.
Write Beyond the Point of Comfort
Everybody has their limits. You need to find out what yours is and try to exceed it. Some people may feel exhausted after writing for thirty minutes. Others may only get tired after three hours. What you need to do is keep writing until you reach the point where you’re just too tired to write. Once you’ve reached this point, take a 2-minute break and try writing another 500 to 1000 words.
Now you’re pushing past your comfort zone and it may feel like these extra words will take a lifetime to complete. But you must persist. Most prolific writers will tell you that as you get tired, it takes much longer to write the same amount of words. So, by frequently pushing past your comfort zone, over time you’ll notice that you’re able to write more without getting as tired. You can keep training yourself using this method. Practice writing daily and every so often goes beyond what you think you’re capable of.
Tackle Topics Your Unfamiliar With
You’ll also note that it’s much easier to write about topics that you’re familiar with or have experience with. Whereas writing about topics that you have no idea about can seem extremely difficult and even frustrating.
A lady who often writes about natural beauty methods for her blog may find it torture to write about car remodeling. Or a male writer who writes authority articles on bodybuilding may feel like a fish out of water when it comes to writing about a topic like ‘Dealing with Menopause.’
Yet, by making an effort to write about something you have no interest or experience in, you’ll actually be training yourself to be a better writer. You do not need to do this all the time, but challenging yourself every so often will help you become a more versatile writer.
The principles are the same. You’ll need to do the research and create the outline. Then you’ll need to write about what you know and infuse the knowledge with your flavor to create something worth reading. If you can do it with one topic, you can do it with almost any topic.
Improve your Vocabulary
It always helps to have a good vocabulary if you wish to be an impressive writer. Spend time learning how to use new words that you’re not accustomed to. Use these words in sentences and inject them into your writing when and where you can. The more words you learn to use and the more often you use them, the better your writing will get and you’ll also be able to write faster since the right words will be at your fingertips and you’ll not need to crack your head to figure out what word to use.
This is a very simple technique that works wonders. Set a timer for 15 or 20 minutes. Pick a topic that you’re familiar with and write about it as fast as you can. If you can manage 400 words in those 15 minutes, aim for 450 the next time… and 500 after that. Always try to beat your personal best.
Contrary to popular belief, rewriting is actually more difficult than writing something from scratch. Most people assume that creating a brand new piece of content is difficult and takes longer as compared to just rewording existing content. It is true that it will take longer because you’ll first need to do the research and create the outline. However, once you start writing, it will be easier because you can just express yourself without referencing anything. All you need is the outline. Just because it takes longer doesn’t mean it’s more difficult. When rewriting an existing piece of content, you’ll need to read it and rewrite it in your own words.
There’s not much leeway because you’ll be trying to maintain the same tone of the article but make it look brand new. Rewriting will make you a better writer because you’ll be thinking of different ways to state the same point. You’ll need synonyms and creativity to regurgitate the content in your own words. This is an excellent practice.
While you shouldn’t create and publish or sell content in this way due to copyright issues and plagiarism… it is really good practice for building your writer’s stamina.Use the tips in this article to build your skills and you’ll become a better, faster,
and stronger writer than you ever imagined.
